Science Spirit Award
Throughout the years we find that the students come to the Challenger Learning Center extremely eager to show us their themed attire they thoughtfully picked out for their big day. We love that so many of the kids do this and this year we really want to highlight their effort and enthusiasm. Whether it be a Star Wars sweatshirt, galaxy headband, Sid the Science Kid shoes or a homemade Earth t-shirt, we want to see it! Currently these awards are specified only to our simulated space mission groups (5th-8th graders that come for Expedition Mars, Return to the Moon or Rendezvous with a Comet program). Although hats are still not allowed to be worn in our building, a themed hat will earn an entry.
During the pre or post brief of the mission your Flight Director will take a moment to recognize any students wearing a piece of science or space themed gear and get them entered into our monthly Science Spirit drawing.
At the end of every month, we will randomly choose 1 boy and 1 girl to be our award winners for that specific month. If your student is picked, we will contact you via email to obtain a fun photo of the winner in your classroom. If the photo is not possible or their guardian does not wish to have their photo posted on our website or social media, we ask that you send a picture of that students favorite thing about space or a themed picture they draw/color. After we obtain this photo, we will feature our winners on the front page of our website until the next winners are announced.
We will also send you an official certificate attached in the email as a pdf for you to fill out and present the student with. Our hope is that you have fun with this in your classroom and make that child feel extra special for being one of our lucky winners. Whether it be picking a prize from your classroom treasure box, earning some class cash, receiving a 1x gum pass or picking two friends to have lunch with you. Another idea would be to play a short educational game in class and our award winner gets to be the leader. Either way, it's a fun way to encourage and reinforce their participation.
Please remind your students about this in the weeks leading up to Challenger. We want all students to have the opportunity to particiate. We appreciate your involvement and thank you for all that you do.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions regarding this new program.
